DEMOLITION has begun on yet another ageing Surfers Paradise tower to make way for Harry Triguboff’s proposed $1 billion, 90-storey tower.
Heavy machinery has moved in on the 22-storey International Beach Resort, with cranes beginning to pull the high-rise apart.
The developer, known as “high-rise Harry” is planning a supertower which would become the Gold Coast’s tallest building.
“We’re looking at going to 90 storeys and possibly more and, subject to gaining approvals, could be building by April,” he told the Gold Coast Bulletin last year.
No development application has been made and it would stand near the 89-level Spirit, current under construction.
The 120-room Surfers Paradise hotel, originally known as the Apollo, was built in 1967.
