A COVETED hilltop piece of Burleigh Heads, held by the same owner for three decades, has sold under the hammer for a glittering $4.6 million price tag, setting a new record for the street.
The three-bedroom, three-bathroom home at 99 George St West sits on 1016 sqm across two titles, with breathtaking views across the beach and up to the hazy Gold Coast skyline.
After a six-week campaign, 18 bidders registered for the auction on Sunday, with 100 people turning out to watch.
Selling agent Eoghan Murphy, of prestige agency Kollosche, said the auction process took an hour amid negotiations from three eager contenders.
“We got it to $3.6 million and then went to private negotiations, behind closed doors,” he said.
“Then we opened it back to the market at $4.6 million and there were no further bids.”
The buyers were Gold Coast locals, who plan to live on the property, Mr Murphy said.
“There’s only a handful of properties in the street, there’s nothing else like it on the Gold Coast,” he said.
“We rode the wave of a long, tiring campaign of six weeks but in the end we got a good price for the buyer and the seller.”
The sale of the weatherboard home, atop Burleigh Ridge next to the suburb’s reservoir, easily passes the street’s previous record sale, which property records list as $2.575 million, paid for number 93 in March 2011.
It was sold by Maxine Wade, who bought it for $360,000 in 1989.

THE Gold Coast’s sizzling housing market is pushing sales of million-dollar-plus properties to stratospheric levels, with 265 high-end contracts settled in the past month alone.
Big ticket sales have included a Surfers Paradise superhome, which settled for $11 million on Monday, a $6.3 million apartment for a well-known Gold Coast Titans identity and a $4 million Admiralty Dr stunner, offloaded last week by one of the city’s richest people.
The number of done deals is more than double the same period last year, when 120 properties settled at $1 million or over.
The data, gleaned from Queensland Government sales records, includes commercial and residential properties settled in the Gold Coast Local Government Area.
Topping the residential list so far in 2021 is the $11 million settlement of 30 Seafarer Ct, Paradise Waters, which was listed back in June by long-time owners William and Leonie Manton.
Mr Manton, a former coffee grower, who spent 20 years in the remote highlands of Papua New Guinea, bought the property in 1984 with his wife and built a new home there in 2008.
“I used to sail past it,” he said in June.
“And I know a good piece of real estate when I see it.”
The six-bedroom, six-bathroom home is sprawled across four levels and has a cinema, rooftop entertaining terrace, seven-car basement, lift and formal and informal living and dining zones.
The buyer is high-profile Gold Coast lawyer John Ramsden, managing partner of Ramsden Lawyers, who took possession on Monday.

Another well-respected businessman, Gold Coast Titans patron Darryl Kelly has nabbed a spectacular slice of Main Beach with wife Joanne.
The Kellys have splashed $6.3 million on the sub-penthouse in the boutique beachfront apartment block Sea.
The couple settled on the three-bedroom, four-bathroom full-floor apartment last Monday.
Down the road at Isle of Capri, developers Lauren and Andrew Hicks have sold their five-bedroom house at 38 Amalfi Drive for $4.65 million.
The two-storey residence occupies the most eastern point on sought-after Amalfi Drive, affording 180 degree views of main river and the city skyline beyond.
It settled last Friday to buyer Jeanene Boorne.
Meanwhile back in Paradise Waters, one of Australia’s richest people, ADCO Constructions chair Judith Brinsmead, has sold 80 Admiralty Drive.
Property records show the four-bedroom, four-bathroom home was listed for $4.95 million from March 2016 to May 2019, then relisted in September last year for $4.35 million.
It settled for $3.99 million last Thursday to Lyn and Peter Zheng.
