A fitness platform created by iconic Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has been snapped up by the younger brother of Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos.

On Friday morning, Hemsworth announced that an exercising app he created several years ago, Centr, had been acquired by a US company.

Mark Bezos is the co-leader of New York-based investment group HighPost Capital, which bought Hemsworth’s app this week.

Hemsworth announced to his 54 million social media followers that he was “thrilled” by the acquisition.

His post on Instagram has already racked up more than half a million likes at time of writing.

A Centr representative confirmed to news.com.au that the Thor star will keep an active role in the company and that he’s a still a major shareholder.

The cost of the acquisition was not disclosed.

HighPost will also merge a weight making company called Inspire Fitness into Centr.

Bloomberg reports that Centr is now worth US$200 million (A$267m) after the acquisition and merger, of which Hemsworth is the second largest stakeholder behind HighPost.

Centr is a subscriber only fitness app that Hemsworth co-founded in 2019, alongside Fitness & Lifestyle Group’s digital division, Loup.

With Hemsworth’s big name and Loup’s technology, the app soon took off.

It involved big celebrity names including special Ops trainer Joseph Sakoda AKA “Da Rulk”, Hollywood trainer Gunnar Peterson, Plant Proof podcast founder Simon Hill, Hemsworth’s personal trainer Luke Zocchi, vegan bodybuilder Torre Washington, yoga instructor Tahl Rinsky, and chef Dan Churchill.

Centr also heavily featured his wife, fellow actor and fitness author, Elsa Pataky.

An estimated 200,000 people now use the platform, according to the company.

Referring to the acquisition, Hemsworth said in a statement: “Centr was created to provide people with carefully curated and integrated fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness programs, guiding beginners and more experienced users in achieving their unique health and fitness goals.

“I look forward to partnering with HighPost and Inspire to continue the success of Centr, inspire people to lead healthier and more active lives, and increase our strong subscriber base worldwide by developing outstanding new content and expanding our offerings.

“I would like to thank the teams at FLG and Loup for their many contributions to Centr and for their ongoing support.”

Last year, news.com.au reported on a Queensland mum who was shocked when she came to the attention of Chris Hemsworth after using his app.

The mum lost 14kg in nine months during her stint with Centr, prompting Hemsworth to share her before and after snaps.

Ms Stenton, 37, was at work when she started getting bombarded with phone calls and messages from family and friends about the post Hemsworth shared to his personal Instagram page.

“Congrats to our @centrfit members on the incredible progress! Inspiring stuff! Honoured to be a part of the health and wellness journey with you all,” Hemsworth captioned the snap.
