A supermarket shopper has taken to the internet with an embarrassing confession following a trip to Coles for a small haul of groceries.
Dealing with what Adelaide personality Amanda Blair said were “the throes of menopause”, she revealed in a now-viral social media post she made a mistake when leaving the supermarket.
“Dear Coles. Sorry I came home with one of your baskets. I wasn’t thinking,” she wrote in a public Facebook post.
“The CCTV footage will show me just happily placing the basket of goodies in my boot then driving away.”
Blair revealed the mistake had earned her an unflattering label in her household.
“My entire family are now calling me a ‘basket thief’,” she reported.
“I promise you I’m not. I’m just in the throes of menopause and experiencing regular brain fades.”
She asked Coles for forgiveness and vowed to deliver the basket on her next visit.
“Forgive me. I’ll return it ASAP, in the meantime I’m sure you’ve got others you can use.”
Thousands responded to the post, including Coles itself.
“That’s OK, accidents happen Amanda! We won’t hold it against you,” it said in response.
Fans of Blair replied to Coles and campaigned for the shop to let her keep the basket.
“Coles Please tell her to keep the basket. At least she was honest to admit that she has it,” one wrote.
“Can’t she just keep bringing it back every time she needs to shop with you?” another said.
Several others admitted they had also mistakenly taken home a shopping basket in the past.
“I did the same with a Bunnings basket years ago! It ended up being really handy to store my minimal collection of ‘Mrs Fixit’ tools in the garage,” one woman wrote.
“Over 10 years ago I accidentally took one home as well. Anyway I never took it back. I kept it and I use it to put things in like a toy basket or basket of shoes,” another said.
“Keep it. They are so useful to keep the boot of your car tidy,” someone else suggested.
