Australian shoppers are set to see more than 1400 prices slashed on popular items and a more sustainable look across products with Kmart and Target introducing new changes ahead of the Christmas rush.
Target cut the prices on more than 400 products after Kmart permanently dropped the prices off more than 1000 everyday items to ease the cost-of-living squeeze in July.
The discounted products are across mens and womenswear, kids clothing and homeware.
Kmart shoppers will also see at least 60 per cent of the Christmas decorations range priced under $5, as well as a new individual hanging decoration range for under $4 and a new Santa collectable range for $8.
Kmart and Target chief executive officer John Gualtieri said it has struggling shoppers at the forefront of its strategy, with millions negatively impacted by the cost-of-living crisis and 13 interest rate hikes in recent months.
“We’re aware it’s pretty tough at the moment for everyone with the cost of living and little things make a difference,” Mr Gualtieri said.
“We are continuing to work with our suppliers to make sure that we continue to drive value for our customers particularly in this tough period of time.”
Christmas wrapping paper, gift bags and envelopes are among some of the plastic free products to hit the shelves — which has been 18 months in the making — but the change won’t come at an extra cost to customers.
“It’s really good to know our customers won’t be paying any more than what they were paying last year, yet the product will have a much better impact on the environment and the planet,” Mr Gualtieri said.
“We know that wrapping gifts is such an important ritual at Christmas time, so it was important for us to use this as an opportunity to drive our product innovation and give our customers an option that is ultimately better for the environment.
“It was a conscious decision in our business to make sure that we don’t have our customers paying more to feel really good about what they’re doing for the environment.
“This will all still meet the criteria of delivering quality, style and value for our customers but still with a good price.”
The newly dropped prices will be available to shop both in-store, online or via the Kmart app.
