Big change coming for millions of Aussie bank customers

Westpac has made a big change to its app that will affect how millions of Aussies are able to pay for everyday items.

Consumer sentiment in the ‘doldrums’ as cost-of-living crisis continues

Westpac customers will now be able to pay any credit card purchase with points in what is being touted as an Australian first.

The bank on Wednesday announced that Altitude Rewards customers could now use their points towards purchases wherever Mastercard is accepted.

The feature can be enabled with a flick of a button on the Westpac app.

Customers can select “pay with points”, allowing them to use points to make everyday purchases and receive a cashback instantly.

“Pay with Points is all about putting power back in our customers’ hands, giving them more convenience and choice and allowing them to use their points in ways that suit their lifestyle and preferences,” Westpac chief digital officer Jason Hair said.

“Our customers have been asking for this and I’m delighted we’ve now delivered it.

“We know Aussies are tightening their belts at the moment, but opening up the ability to use points towards everyday purchases gives a little bit of flexibility that we know will be appreciated.”.

Customers can continue to redeem points through the usual way for gift cards and travel.

Customers must simply have $3 or more in points to make a purchase.

Points do not expire and there is no limit on how many points can be used in one transaction.
