A popular CBD restaurant has shared vision of three people failing miserably to break into the venue before returning nights later to try again.
On Thursday, Bar Italia in Leichhardt posted CCTV footage of “the Three Stugges (sic)” in which a trio dressed in hoodies tries several tactics to gain access to the property.
The first hooded figure approaches the double doors of the restaurant at about 12.50am and kicks to try to open them.
After a few more failed attempts, another person crouches and approaches the bottom glass panel with a glass breaker, but is unable to shatter the window.
The trio continues its attempts to no avail, leaving only a small break in the glass to show for their efforts.
The restaurant shared the video on its Facebook page, asking the boys to return again.
“The Three Stugges (sic) are in town,” Bar Italia wrote.
“Come on boys, come over tonight.
“Just knock – we will be waiting for you.”
But on Saturday morning, the three thieves took up the bar’s invitation and returned to the restaurant, finally breaking in and helping themselves to cash registers.
Going on a rampage through the store, the three smashed open cash registers to steal money before running out to place their stolen goods in a shopping trolley.
But in another embarrassing twist, they managed to let go of the trolley and it rolled downhill with the cash still in it.
CCTV footage captured the moment they realised it had gotten away from them, before they ran off with it and around $5000 in cash.
NSW Police asked anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
“Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said in a statement.
