A Burleigh company has big plans for a new marina after buying the rights from Sunland.

Sunland unveils Hedges Ave tower on Gold Coast

DEVELOPER Sunland has continued with its asset sell-off – offloading the marina at its Marina Concourse development in Benowa for $1.76 million.

An entity associated with the Hattingh family, which owns Burleigh Heads-based Pacific Pontoon & Pier, has purchased the title to the 2.6ha water body or marina that the Marina Concourse development wraps around.

The family plans to build a marina with 100 berths ranging from 8m to 12m.

Pacific Pontoon & Pier CEO Will Hattingh said the family bought the marina due to its location 50m from the Nerang River and opposite Metricon Stadium and the fact it was a freehold asset.

“This is one of, if not the last, freehold marinas left on the Gold Coast,” he said.

Mr Hattingh said they plan to start work in two to three months time.

He said the first 30 berths will take about four weeks to complete.

Mr Hattingh said it will let the market dictate if they complete the remaining 70 berths.

The berths, which are to be available for short or long term lease, will be targeted at boat owners in Royal Pines and boat brokers.

CLIVE PALMER'S LATEST PROPERTY BUY

Ray White Broadbeach’s Adam Grbcic, who marketed the property with Tony Grbcic, said the property sold following an offmarket campaign targeted at the pontoon and marine industry.

Sunland has recently focused on selling off its assets, including the Lakeview Retail Centre in Mermaid Waters, which sold for $20 million mid-last year.

It also listed the Mariner’s Cove retail village and marina for sale last year, as well as announcing it had sold the balance of its land at The Heights in Pimpama for $29.7 million.
