THE developers of a lanky Broadbeach tower with size-matters apartments have started construction, undaunted by the COVID-19 pandemic and emboldened by the $4.52 million sale of the penthouse.

The Infinity tower, which will climb to 39 levels, will only have three and four-bedroom apartments and is aimed at owner-occupiers.

The building, on the corner of Surf Pde and George St, is due for completion by Hutchinson Builders by early 2022.

Infinity marks a Gold Coast debut for the Sydney-based Bassar Construction group, headed by former school friends Leo Sarris and Simon Bassil.

Mr Sarris yesterday said Bassar had pressed the go button because it had absolute confidence in Broadbeach and perceived a need for bigger owner-occupier apartments.

He said COVID-19 hardly had affected the buyer inquiry level at Infinity.

“People know there is plenty of time between now and when Infinity will be completed.

“By completion any panic will have well and truly subsided – the pandemic will not last forever.”

Infinity, designed by the BDA group, has a floorplan in the design of a double infinity symbol and will be home to solely full and half-floor apartments.

Mr Sarris said the penthouse, which would span 471sq m and have a rooftop terrace, had sold to an offshore buyer.

“This buyer loved that Infinity will have only 63 apartments and will be a residents-only building.”

Mr Sarris said another buyer had secured one of the 451sq m whole-floor apartments for $4.12 million. Ten remain.

“We’ve also sold an array of three-bedroom, half-floor apartments at between $1.3 million and $1.7 million.”

Resident facilities at Infinity will include a 20-metre pool, gymnasium, function room and café.

Infinity, being marketed by Andrew Ramsey, of Kollosche Prestige Agents, is under way on an 1123sq m site bought for $7 million.

Bassar was set up six years ago by Mr Sarris, who has a construction background, and Mr Bassil, whose family has a history in the concreting business.

The group targeted Broadbeach after completing 297 Sydney apartments in a joint venture and also is active in Melbourne.
