A PAIR of developers who have just completed a twin-tower project in Sydney’s western suburbs are preparing to make a ‘big’ apartment debut on the Gold Coast.

School friends Leo Sarris, 38, and Simon Bassil, 40, via their Bassar Group, are to build a 39-storey tower called Infinity on a $7 million site at Broadbeach.

Mr Sarris yesterday said Infinity would stand out for the size and quality of its 63 half and full-floor three and four-bedroom apartments. Prices will start above $1 million.

Bassar expects to start marketing the project next month via the Kollosche agency, has the construction job out for tender, and expects to have work under way by September.

Mr Sarris said the tower, which would offer views from the ocean to the Hinterland, was expected to appeal to a wide demographic.

“We have had a lot of interest already from owner-occupiers, lock-and-leavers, downsizers who want house-size apartment living, and from investors with an acute eye for quality.”

Infinity, designed by the BDA group, has a floorplan in the form of a double infinity symbol.

The 1023 sqm Infinity site is on the corner of Surf Pde and George Ave and is home to 1960s unit blocks.

Mr Sarris said he and his fellow director had an affinity with the Gold Coast.

“How could anyone not have one?

“The city has great people, fantastic weather, and boasts a healthy lifestyle.

“It really is like living in paradise.”

Mr Sarris said Broadbeach was Bassar’s initial target but the group was looking at other suburbs for its next project.

Bassar was set up six years ago by Mr Sarris, who has a construction background, and Mr Bassil, whose family has a long history in the concreting business.

The group has just completed 297 Sydney apartments in a joint venture and also is active in Melbourne.

Mr Sarris, who moved to the Gold Coast 18 months ago, said Bassar would wind back its Sydney activities to focus on Infinity.

The tower will have 52 half-floor apartments, all with three bedrooms and three bathrooms, and spanning 224 sqm.

They will carry tags of between $1.19 million and $1.875 million.

Ten whole-floor apartments each will span 451 sqm and include four bedrooms, with bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, and a powder room.

They will start at $3.5 million and go to $4.175 million.

A dual-level penthouse of 788 sqm, and with a rooftop pool and terrace, is expected to sell for around $6 million.

The whole of Infinity’s second floor will be devoted to resident facilities, including a 20m pool and gymnasium, and a 120 sqm ground-level retail area might house a cafe.
