FITNESS queen Ashy Bines has decided to shut down her gym in Mermaid Beach saying she doesn’t enjoy “any process” of running the facility.

The fitness influencer made the announcement in a 12-minute YouTube clip uploaded to her channel on Tuesday.

She said the decision was made with her husband Steven Evans and business associate Levi Walz.

“If you are aware we have had a gym on the Gold Coast … for nearly six years now and it is time for that chapter to be closed,” she says in the video.

“Levi and Steve wanted to do this a couple of years ago and I was like, ‘no’.

“I love my gym, I love it and I still do love it.”

Ms Bines said she had made the decision after much “soul searching” on what made her happy.

“The core reason is, honestly, I am not passionate about running a gym.

“I don’t enjoy any process of running or managing a gym.”

Ms Bines said she had opened the gym because there was a gap in the market for a women-only gym.

She said part of the reason to close was she was being “pulled (away) in so many areas”, which was causing anxiety. There was also a leak in the roof.

She claimed the gym was sound financially.

“The actual gym is going well, we have enough members, it is not a financial thing. It was not killing it but it wasn’t like, not doing well either.”

The decision to close comes after the Bulletin reported last year that the Pacific Square gym had been shrunk from two tenancies spanning 1000sq m to one across 700sq m.

Weekly gym membership fees were also cut from $29.99 to $9.99 and some classes, such as spin, axed.

Mr Evans said at the time there was not “great demand” for spin and pilates classes.

The gym closure after Ms Bines sold her Broadbeach Waters property for $2.2 million in January this year.

She bought the palatial property at 15 Cedar Place in 2013 for $1.955 million.

Ms Bines also recently released her own self-titled magazine.
