APARTMENT living on Chevron Island is set to reach new heights, literally, with work on the waterfront suburb’s first high-rise under way next week.
Nine high-rises, one of 46 levels, have been approved on the island since 2014 but none have been started.
That will change next week when a construction team moves on to the site of the 16-level Allure.

The building go-ahead has been given in the wake of 40 per cent of the tower’s 95 apartments selling off the plan.
It also comes as developers have enjoyed success on Chevron with boutique medium-rise buildings, such as the nine-level Stanhill.
NEW LOOK FOR PLANNED CHEVRON ISLAND TOWER
Graham Goldman, managing-director of Allure project manager Eastview Australia, yesterday said the start on the project was expected to further stimulate sales.
“Allure is only the second tower to actually hit the market on Chevron, which illustrates some trepidation by the owners of approved high-rise sites.
“The Allure team was sure there was a buyer appetite for high-rise living, and not just because of the views on offer.
“In this day and age buyers also want the so-called resort trimmings, such as rooftop terraces and dining, gymnasiums, and even infinity pools.
“Having a good-sized site and a greater number of apartments than smaller buildings has enlarged the scope for such resident facilities.”

Allure has been designed by Mermaid Beach architectural practice BDA, is being built by home-grown construction company Condev, and marketing is being undertaken by Macquarie York.
The three-lot 1652sqm Allure site, on the corner of Burra and Dalpurra streets, was bought earlier this year for $3.51 million by Chevron Island SPV Pty Ltd.
The company is controlled by Sydney tiling industry figure Peter Saba whose group has worked on Gold Coast projects such as the Soul, Oracle and Meriton Broadbeach towers, Pacific Fair, and The Darling at Broadbeach.
The only other high-rise to be marketed on Chevron has been Chevron One in Stanhill Drive, which was launched nearly two years ago.
Full construction of the 41-level tower is due to start early in the new year.
A company behind an approved Chevron tower called Bliss failed to pay for its amalgamated site and another group, Citimark, has put its holding, approved for a 23-floor building, on the market.
