A MERRIMAC property — formerly home to the Queensland Independent College — has hit the market, complete with classrooms and a library with books.

Queensland Independent College, which was founded in 2008 as the Queensland Montessori College, closed in 2017, with most students moving to Silkwood School in Mt Nathan.

The school previously catered for prep students through to Year 7.

The property is being sold by Merrimac Land Pty Ltd, linked to Justin Zulamoski, which purchased it from the Australian Section Theosophical Trust for $4.9 million in 2017.

Ray White Commercial Gold Coast’s Adam Young and Brandon Johnson are marketing the 3.03ha property at 16 Ghilgai Rd, Merrimac, in an expressions of interest campaign that closes on July 4.

Buyers are being offered the opportunity to purchase the whole site or the vacant independent school facility on its own.

The property also hosts a 140-place Busy Bees Academy child care centre, which forms part of the offering.

Proposals to lease the school only or to lease the entire site — including the childcare operation — will also be considered.

Mr Young said there is development approval in place for a school with up to 500 students.

“With everything included, right down to the desks and chairs, the property is ready to be sold or leased to another school,” he said.

The purpose-built school, which has a total building area of 2586sq m, was constructed in 1996. It closed in 2017.

“It was progressively extended and modified every year between 2008 and 2014,” Mr Young said.

“As it currently stands, there are five detached buildings — including the childcare centre — a demountable amenities block and car parking.”

Each of the 12 classrooms is big enough to accommodate at least 20 students.

The library has a collection of books and DVDs, a reception area and a separate lockable office.

There is also an arts studio, a music room, an administration building and two basketball courts.
