A woman has had her arm partially amputated in a shocking dog attack.
The woman was rushed to Katherine Hospital after the attack that occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning.
NCA Newswire understands the woman suffered a “partial amputation” due to her injuries which have seen her been flown to Darwin for treatment.
“A dark brown dog with no collar has attacked a woman, causing injures,” a Northern Territory police spokesperson said after the incident.
The dog is still on the loose and officers are attempting to track it down.
“The animal was last seen at the intersection of Lucy Street and Riverbank Drive.”
The public is urged to avoid the area and “exercise caution” if they have to travel through.
Locals took to social media to complain about dogs in the area.
“People have been complaining about a brown dog attacking them for months along there,” one person commented.
“That dog has been a danger along riverbank drive for the last two years and council hasn‘t intervened to protect the public,” another said.
