The man accused of killing a Perth teenager with his car just metres away from the boy’s home has been granted bail.
Abdul Popal, 16, was allegedly dragged by a four-wheel drive through a laneway in Clarkson about 6pm on Saturday night.
“He clung to the side of a vehicle as the vehicle fled the area,” police said in a statement.
“He fell from the vehicle, striking the ground heavily, and died at the scene.”
Kai Dylan Best, 20, was charged with manslaughter and faced Joondalup Magistrates Court on Monday.
The father-of-one, who reportedly has another child on the way, was granted bail with a $10,000 personal undertaking and a $50,000 surety.
Best is due back in court on January 18.
CCTV footage revealed Abdul spoke to the driver moments before he appeared to latch onto the vehicle, then fell as it drove away, 9 News reports.
Neighbours tried to revive the teenager before paramedics arrived, but he could not be saved.
His mother was home at the time but had no idea her son was in trouble until she heard the police sirens.
Heavily armed TRG officers later raided Best’s home and his car was towed.
Abdul’s friends have remembered him as a “kind-hearted and down-to-earth human” who would “put a smile on your face and always have a smile on his”.
