An Indigenous woman has died while in police custody, Queensland Police have confirmed.

The 49-year-old, who was arrested for property and drug matters on Sunday morning, was found dead in her cell in the Brisbane City Watchhouse this morning.

She appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday and was remanded in custody until October 7. She was being held in the watchhouse pending a transfer to a correctional facility.

While the circumstances of the death are to be determined, a Queensland Police spokesperson said the investigation would include consideration of any underlying health conditions.
