Former deputy prime minister and foreign minister Julie Bishop made a shock announcement via social media on Friday, posting about her latest – non-political – career move.

Ms Bishop took to Instagram to announce a new partnership with American skincare and make-up brand Estee Lauder.

A long-time user of the brand’s products, she said they have been a part of her “everyday beauty routine for years”.

The former federal politician practised as a lawyer before climbing the ladder of Australian politics.

After retiring form politics in February 2019, Ms Bishop took up a new challenge as chancellor of the Australian National University.

Talking to Vogue Australia about the new partnership, she said she pairs the brand’s Advanced Night Repair serum with the newly formulated Revitalising Supreme+ moisturiser.

“In my line of work, that added strength comes in handy,” she told Vogue.

In promotional photos set to appear in the latest edition of the fashion title, Ms Bishop can be seen donning an aluminium face mask while practising yoga poses in activewear.

Other scenes show the former politician glammed up in designer dresses and sparkling with jewels as she bakes, watches TV and gets ready “for a lunch with the girls” all while using the brand’s latest products.

Ms Bishop made headlines on election night while featuring on Channel 9’s broadcast panel when she pointed to her former party’s failings when it comes to reaching female voters.

“Women did not see their concerns and interests reflected in a party led by Scott Morrison in coalition with Barnaby Joyce,” she said.

“We have not mentioned at this point the impact of Grace Tame and Brittany Higgins; they changed the narrative when they exposed an ugly side to the workplace in Canberra. That resonated with women.”
