Covid-19 NSW: Coles, Woolworths, Westfield on alert over Omicron case

Several venues more than 80km from each other have been put on alert after a confirmed case of Omicron was infectious in the community.

Businesses in Sydney’s west and on the Central Coast have been listed as exposure sites after a woman infected with the Omicron variant was in the community before testing positive.

The woman, aged in her 30s, is the fifth case of the Omicron coronavirus variant confirmed in NSW. She flew into Sydney on November 25 and spent time in Sydney and on the Central Coast.

She arrived before the new travel restrictions were introduced.

NSW Health issued an urgent alert on Tuesday afternoon for several venues, including a Coles, Woolworths and busy Westfield.

Several stores in Westfield Parramatta are on alert.

Anyone who was at the following venues at the times listed on November 26 is considered a casual contact and must get tested and isolate until they receive a negative result.

RYDE

• Coles, Top Ryde Shopping Centre, between 9.30am and 10.45am

PARRAMATTA

• Target, Westfield Parramatta, between 10.45am and 11am
• H&M, Westfield Parramatta, between 11am and 11.15am
• The Athlete’s Foot, Westfield Parramatta, between 11.15am and 11.30am
• JD Sports, Westfield Parramatta, between 11.15am and midday

NORTH WYONG or WYONG

• IGA, 34-38 Cutler Drive, between 6.15pm and 7pm
• Pizza Hut, 300 Pacific Highway, between 7pm and 7.15pm
• KFC, 300 Pacific Highway, between 7.15pm and 7.30pm

WADALBA

• Woolworths, 1 Figtree Boulevard, between 7.30pm and 8.15pm

“This particular lady came in before the new arrangements, that is transferring to a health hotel, so she has been out in the community and health is now investigating that,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard told 7 News.

“She has essentially been out in the Central Coast area.”

NSW Health said the woman, who is fully vaccinated, is isolating at home on the Central Coast.

She arrived in Sydney on flight QR908 from Doha on November 25 and travelled by private car to the Central Coast. She had been in southern Africa.

Meanwhile, four overseas travellers who arrived in NSW after spending time in southern Africa have already tested positive to the Omicron strain.

NSW Health said the travellers were also fully vaccinated and isolating.

Everyone on the same flight is considered a close contact and must get tested immediately and then isolate for 14 days regardless of their vaccination status.

The World Health Organisation has warned the Omicron variant could be “severe”.

“The likelihood of potential further spread of Omicron at the global level is high,” the WHO said.

Premier Dominic Perrottet on Monday said 141 people from nine southern African countries hit by the variant had arrived in NSW in the past 24 hours and were in quarantine.

The new strain is circulating in South Africa, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Namibia, Eswatini and Malawi.
