Charges upgraded to attempted murder over alleged sword attack
A man who allegedly attacked a family member with a samurai sword has been charged with attempted murder as the injured man fights for life.

Further charges have been laid over an incident in which a man’s hand was allegedly cut off with a samurai sword.
Police were called to an address at The Pines in Millmerran, about 82km southwest of Toowoomba, following a disturbance at around 9:30pm on Sunday night.
They arrived to find a 56-year-old man with a “significant injury to his hand caused by a long bladed weapon”.
He was rushed to Toowoomba Base Hospital in a critical condition.
Toowoomba detectives initially charged a 25-year-old Dubbo man with grievous bodily harm, however that charge has been upgraded to attempted murder (domestic violence offence).
He has also been charged with one count of robbery (domestic violence offence), unlawful use of motor vehicle (domestic violence offence) and going armed to cause fear.
It’s alleged he fled the scene before being located a short time later at a service station on Gore Highway at Captains Mountain. He was taken into custody without further incident.
He has been remanded in custody and is due to reappear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The 56-year-old injured man is now at Princess Alexandra Hospital where he is in a critical condition.
