Despite rising inflation and the increasing cost of living, Aussies are still using online delivery services to spend up on takeaway food.

Australians are spending an average of $40 per week on delivery food through the use of apps such as UberEats, Deliveroo and DoorDash, a new survey has found.

The average Aussie is happy to fork out that little bit extra for convenience, spending $41.50 per week despite the rising cost of inflation, according to Canstar Blue’s latest survey.

This year’s cost is just a few dollars below the average of $44.40 in 2021.

At least 70 per cent of the $41.50 is a direct result of delivery and online ordering dragging the average up.

According to the report, Aussies can save the most on delivery by using DoorDash, with its customers saving $3-4 per week.

Canstar Blue has found two in five Australians have tried more than one restaurant meal delivery service, while a third are expecting to order more in the future.

Aussies have also rated DoorDash the No.1 meal delivery service, receiving five-star reviews for reliability, timing, customer service, website and app navigation, value for money and overall satisfaction.

“Aussies who use DoorDash spend the least on takeaway food, with our research revealing those using the platform spend on average $39 a month on meal deliveries,” the report said.

“That’s roughly $468 annually.”

Deliveroo was the second-most-liked service followed by Menulog and UberEats in last place.

Various fast-food services have chosen to jack up their fees, feeling the crunch of cost-of-living pressures.

Domino’s Pizza on Monday revealed it now included a 6 per cent delivery fee to ensure it made profits, citing the rising cost of expenses such as fuel, food and utilities.

The company insisted it was just a “small fee”, with a $30 pizza order incurring an extra $1.80 for delivery as a result of the change.

The Reserve Bank of Australia on Tuesday raised interest rates for the third month in a row to curb spending and inflation, which is at 5.1 per cent.

Domino’s isn’t the first fast-food company to react to cost-of-living pressures, with consumers in NSW, Victoria, Queensland, the ACT and Tasmania last month outraged when KFC began putting cabbage in burgers.

The chicken giant revealed the “temporary blend” of lettuce and cabbage would be introduced to make up for a critical lettuce shortage.
