Players launch boycott in escalating war with NRL

NRL

NRL players are set to boycott the competition's launch as well as promotional activity in protest of the organisation’s delay in sorting out the new collective bargaining agreement.

Cronulla’s playing group refused to be interviewed or take photos,  with veteran back-rower Wade Graham reportedly breaking  the news to photographer Grant Trouville.

The Dragons followed the Sharks’ lead and cancelled a media opportunity, with the club confirming the decision was part of the players’ standoff with the NRl.

In December the NRL announced its salary cap for the next five years, angering the players who had not signed off on the new CBA.

In light of the club boycotts the NRL season launch is now under threat, which isn’t the players' intention, according to Melbourne Storm prop Christian Welch.
