Monaco curse continues as leclerc crashes $1.7m car

Formula One

Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc had a day to forget after crashing Nicki Lauda’s AU$1.7 million 1974 Ferrari into the wall at Monaco.

Leclerc reportedly had brake failure which caused the Monacan to lose control of his rear going into the La Rascasse corner.

A mortified Leclerc spun out with the back of the Ferrari 312 B3 colliding with the wall damaging the wing.

Leclerc Tweeted after the crash:

When you thought you already had all the bad luck of the world in Monaco and you lose the brakes into rascasse with one of the most iconic historical Ferrari Formula 1 car.

Lauda finished fourth in the overall standings in 1974, winning the Grands Prix in Spain and the Netherlands.

It wasn’t the first time the car had been crashed, with Jean Alesi having a similar accident in the same event last year.

Having looked set to start on pole Leclerc crashed in Q3 damaging his gearbox and ruling him out of the race.

Leclerc also had a torrid time during the Monaco Grand Prix last year.

Even though the 24-year-old couldn’t escape his Monaco curse, he currently leads the world championship standings by 19 points.
