CCTV has captured the moments a hooded hammer gang embark on a brazen jewellery heist in the heart of Sydney CBD which left a business already reeling from COVID-19 in tatters.

Shocking CCTV has been released of a jewellery heist in Sydney’s CBD last month as police hunt for the gang.

The footage shows a black Mercedes GLE63 reverse and park outside the Germani Jewellery store on George Street around 3.20am on March 19 before three men armed with hammers smash through the glass doors.

The men then ransack the shop, smashing through several glass display cabinets before stealing almost $600,000 worth of jewellery including diamond bracelets, earrings and necklaces.

The brazen thieves then flee in the black Mercedes, speeding south on George Street towards the Western Distributor and onto the Anzac Bridge.

Police are urging anyone who may have more information about the identities of the men to come forward.

One man was wearing a black jacket, grey tracksuit pants with a diagonal stripe and black running shoes with white soles.

The second man a dark-coloured jumper and tracksuit pants and black sneakers.

The third man was dressed in black tracksuit pants, a blue hooded jumper, white sneakers and carrying a large canvass bag.

The shocking heist left its business owner - already grappling with the devastating toll of COVID-19 - reeling, police said.

“These men stole nearly $600,000 worth of jewellery, which has had a significant impact on the livelihood of these business owners and at a time when the community is already vulnerable,” Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Commander Detective Acting Superintendent Grant Taylor said.

Police are calling on anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area or who may have been travelling on the M4 after 3.20am that morning to come forward.

“We believe these men were travelling in a black Mercedes GLE63 with the registration CLB 86H. Anyone who may have seen this vehicle is crucial to our investigation,” he said.
