A teenager is fighting for his life after being dragged from a car and shot in Sydney’s west late last night.

Police said today the ‘brutal’ incident was not linked to organised crime.

The 19-year-old man underwent emergency surgery after being shot in the chest and leg in an attack by five men.

Paramedics treated him at the scene of the shooting in Anderson Lane, near Helen Street in Sefton. He was then taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Early investigations suggested the teen was seated in a car with another man on Anderson Lane in Sefton when he was shot before 11.45pm.

The gang of men approached the car and smashed the passenger window as they pulled the driver out and shot him.

The 21-year-old passenger suffered a minor injury to his eye from the smashed glass. He did not require treatment and is assisting police with inquiries.

A white hatchback was seen leaving the area soon after the shooting. Police would like to speak with the driver of that car, or anyone who may have information that could assist.

A crime scene has been established in Anderson Lane as detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command commence inquiries.

On Saturday, Bankstown Police commander Detective Superintendent Murray Reynolds said the shooting “no links to organised crime.”

“It’s very early in the investigation but certainly we believe it was a targeted attack and that the two groups had arranged to meet,” he said. “I am unaware of what they arranged to meet for but that’s part of the ongoing investigation.”

“It’s a brutal attack and a 19yo m remains in hospital in a critical condition,” Set Reynolds said.

Police are also calling for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Anderson Lane, Helen Street, Wellington Road or Sefton Railway Station around 11.45pm last night should contact police at Bankstown Police Station.
