Police have charged a teenager with stealing a car which was later used, they suspect, in the execution of well-known Sydney bikie Fares Abounader.
High-ranking former Comanchero Abounader, 39, had been rumoured to have patched-over to the Bandidos and feared for his life when he was gunned down outside his Panania home just before midnight on August 29, 2020.
He died at the scene.
The following day, a Subaru Forester which had been seen near the Abounader home that night was found on fire in Carew St at Padstow.
Detectives from the Criminal Groups Squad had forensic evidence taken from the smouldering car which matched it to a vehicle stolen from the suburb or Beaumont Hills on October 21, 2019.
Detectives traced the stolen car to an 18-year-old male who also lived in Panania.
“Police will allege in court that the teenager stole a Subaru Forester from a Beaumont Hills home in October 2019,” police said in a statement.
Police will further allege the young man was depicted in a video brandishing a firearm on September 22 last year.
The teenager is not accused of any involvement in the murder of Abounader and the incident in which he allegedly held a gun is not related to the homicide investigation either.
Police raided the teenager’s Panania home on Thursday and seized a number of items. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital and charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, four counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception and possess unauthorised firearm.
He was given conditional bail to appear at a Children’s Court on February 11.
