A Northern Beaches senior taekwondo instructor has been granted bail after allegedly grooming and sexually assaulting his student, who he met when she was aged 12.
Seaforth resident Christopher Palmares Sy, 35, has not entered a plea to several offences including aggravated sexual intercourse with a child.
Police facts allege Sy, an occupational therapist and managing director at Processing Plus Therapy services, met the child ago while he was running classes at Spirit taekwondo in Brookvale.
The alleged victim told police Sy was “always being nice”.
Police will allege on Valentines Day this year, the alleged victim woke to a large pink and green rose on the front doorstep, with a note which read, “Happy Valentines Day … I hope you like this rose!!!??” He allegedly also asked the same thing on social media.
Sy allegedly invited the girl and two friends, also from taekwondo, to his home to celebrate the male friend’s birthday.
He allegedly gave his students MDMA, which they each swallowed, washed down with a mouthful of peach-flavoured Iced Tea.
The alleged victim saw the “room spinning” and fell to the floor, before Sy picked her up, took her to his room and sexually assaulted her, police facts allege.
The facts said the alleged victim’s friends checked on her welfare, but he reassured them before giving them more MDMA.
Sy allegedly assaulted her on two more separate occasions.
Magistrate Rodney Brender approved Sy’s bail application yesterday with strict conditions including a curfew, not contacting the alleged victim, and only owning one mobile phone police can monitor.
Sy is due to reappear in the Downing Centre Courthouse on July 23.
