Salim Mehajer apparently didn’t spot a police car sitting at the same intersection when he allegedly began spinning the wheels on his $300,000 Ferrari.

The life and times of Salim Mehajer

Salim Mehajer is famous for his love of expensive cars but it seems the police were not as impressed by the former politician’s glistening Ferrari.

Mehajer lost seven demerit points on the spot, was fined $1000 and must now face court to fight two traffic infringements after police allegedly caught him doing a burnout and speeding in his white Ferrari in Sydney’s inner west on April 26.

The former Auburn deputy mayor apparently didn’t spot a police car sitting at the same Rozelle intersection when he allegedly spun the wheels on his $300,000 sports car shortly after 10.45pm.

Police allegedly caught Salim Mehajer doing a burnout and speeding in his white Ferrari in Sydney’s inner west on April 26.

According to police documents, Mehajer was stopped at a set of traffic lights at Darley St and the City West Link where the officers watched on as he “accelerated harshly” away from the intersection.

The officers then followed Mehajer to another set of lights at The Crescent where he allegedly did the same thing.

“The driver again accelerated harshly away from the traffic control lights … resulting in both rear wheels losing traction with the roadway,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

Police also allege that Mehajer reached speeds of as much as 100km/h in a 70km/h zone.

The officers activated their lights and sirens before stopping Mehajer on Victoria Rd.

Mehajer was issued with infringement notices for operating a vehicle to cause the driving wheels to undergo sustained loss of traction, which carries a $686 fine and the loss of three demerit points.

He was given another for exceeding the speed limit by more than 20km/h, for which he was fined $481 and lost a further four demerit points.

Mehajer is now listed to face the Downing Centre Local Court on December 7 to answer to each of the allegations.

Mr Mehajer said yesterday that he had elected to take the matters to court to contest the infringements.

The court date adds to an already lengthy list of cases involving Mehajer who shot to fame after he made headlines with his 2015 wedding that blocked streets with a range of supercars.

The 33-year-old was released from prison in May 2019 after being sentenced to 11 months jail for electoral fraud for a scheme that got him elected to Auburn Council.

This is not the first time Mehajer has found trouble with a Ferrari.

In 2015, Mehajer was ordered to pay $1.7 million to two women who sued the 33-year-old after he lost control of a dark coloured Ferrari and crashed into them.

The women were treated for serious injuries to the leg and pelvis at Westmead Hospital after the incident in 2012 and launched a civil action against Mehajer in the District Civil Court.

Reports at the time said Mehajer’s insurance covered the payout.

Last year, a picture emerged on social media of a white Ferrari parked outside Mehajer’s Lidcombe home with the front half of it smashed to pieces and the bonnet ripped off.
