Sydney property developer Jean Nassif is suing the city’s biggest name in radio, Ray Hadley, saying he was defamed by a series of broadcasts about his property company.
Mr Nassif became a viral sensation when he gave his glamorous wife, Nissy, a Lamborghini SUV.
The video achieved meme status when Mr Nassif said “congratulations Mrs Nassif – do you like?” as the hugely expensive car rolled into their Sydney driveway.
But the property developer said Hadley falesly made him out as a shonky builder and, this month, launched Federal Court proceedings against the radio presenter.
Mr Nassif’s legal team will argue the reputation of his company, Toplace, was damaged by the broadcasts.
“The proceedings relate to a campaign of unfair and inaccurate commentary by Mr Hadley over the course of the last year about Toplace’s business practices,” a statement from the Nassif’s reads.
“Mr Nassif and the Toplace Group have taken this action to protect the excellent reputation in the construction industry that they have built over many decades.”
Mr Hadley’s radio station, 2GB, has been asked for comment.
