Teen arrested over alleged Syd stabbing attack

Police are looking into whether a possible love triangle sparked an alleged stabbing on Sydney’s northern beaches.

Daniel Gorshenin, 35, of Davidson, appeared in Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday after being arrested and charged over the incident at a Collaroy home on Saturday.

Police will allege in court an altercation occurred between Gorshenin, Rohan Sirbadhoo and a woman before Sirbadhoo was allegedly stabbed in his stomach.

Officers allege in court documents Gorshenin wounded Sirbadhoo, also 35, and was reckless as to causing actual bodily harm to him about 230pm on Saturday.

Sirbadhoo was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he has since undergone surgery and remains in a stable condition.

Gorshenin was later arrested at a home in Davidson and charged with reckless wounding.

Outside court, police said detectives were looking into whether a possible love triangle triggered the incident.

It’s believed the woman knew both of the men for a short period of time but the men did not know each other.

Gorshenin muttered to himself “this is crazy, crazy, crazy man” and “the victim? what the f**k” while appearing on video link in court from Surry Hills police station before he was told to be quiet by Magistrate Andrew George.

“Do you want bail? You‘ll keep quiet, if I hear any more profanity … you will be refused bail – you are charged with a very serious offence,” the magistrate warned.

Defence lawyer Abby van der Velde pushed for Gorshenin to be released on bail, saying there was a possible self-defence issue in relation the incident and that if held on remand his matter may not be finalised for a long period due to coronavirus.

Mr George agreed to grant Gorshenin bail but said the self-defence line was “to say the least, lame”.

“I really can’t see that being seen as an excuse in the circumstances,” Mr George said.

As part of his strict bail conditions, Gorshenin must live at a Bondi address and report to Bondi police station daily.

He is also forbidden from contacting the victim or any other witnesses in the mater.

He will face Manly Local Court on October 8.
