NSW Liberal staffer charged with historic child sex abuse

A former Liberal Party worker has been charged with a string of historical child sex offences after allegedly abusing a boy and girl who were under his care.

Anti-corruption bodies are supposed to ‘expose corruption publicly’

A man who had previously worked for Premier Gladys Berejiklian has been charged with a string of historical child sex offences after allegedly abusing a boy and girl who were under his care.

Police will allege the 41-year-old man, who cannot be named as he was a juvenile at the time of the offences, abused two children between 1994 and 1996.

The man was arrested at the Manly Police Station at about 11am on Tuesday after a four-year investigation by NSW Police.

Northern Beaches detectives launched an investigation in 2016 after receiving reports the man had allegedly sexually abused a girl and boy known to him while in his care.

He was charged with three counts of aggravated indecency against a victim under 16 and under his authority, two counts of sexual intercourse with a person aged 10 to 16 under his authority, and one count of attempted sexual assault with a person aged 10 to 14 under his authority.

“Police will allege in court that the man sexually and indecently assaulted a boy and a girl – aged between eight and 10 – while they were in his care,” a NSW police spokeswoman said.

The man moved to a private consulting after working for the Premier

It is understood the man did not work for the Liberal Party directly during his tenure in ministerial offices.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Manly Local Court on December 2.
