Michael Lichaa: Former Bulldogs hooker injures arm in argument at home

Former Bulldogs hooker Michael Lichaa has been seen by specialist hand and arm doctors after suffering serious injuries following a disturbance at his home.

Former Bulldogs player Michael Lichaa has been charged after he was taken to hospital in a serious condition following an alleged fight with a current NRL star in what police are investigating as a “love triangle’’.

It is understood the partner of one of the players was at the centre of an argument involving Lichaa and the other footballer which quickly turned physical.

The drama occurred at Lichaa’s southern Sydney home during a gathering, which led to the ugly scenes in the early hours of Sunday.

Police are looking into whether a misunderstanding might have sparked the drama.

Officers were called to a “domestic incident’’ at the Connells Point home at 4.50am yesterday after being notified of a loud dispute by neighbours.

On arrival, police found 27-year-old Lichaa suffering severe cuts to his hand and arm.

It is believed the former Bulldog star may have sustained the injuries after he put his hand through a glass window at the home.

He was taken to Sydney Hospital for treatment by a team of hand specialists.

Lichaa was released from hospital late on Sunday and questioned by police.

During the argument he is alleged to have assaulted a 26-year-old woman, who is known to him.

He was charged with common assault (DV), destroy or damage property (DV) and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (DV).

Lichaa was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Wednesday.

Police confirmed there was a second man at the home along with two women and two children.

That man, an NRL player who is currently on the roster of a Sydney club, was found by police to also be suffering from a number of injuries.

He was spoken to about the injuries he had sustained.

The incident has been reported to the NRL Integrity Unit. A former Junior Kangaroos representative, Lichaa began his NRL career with Cronulla in 2014.

He moved to the Bulldogs in 2015 and made 113 first grade appearances before being released last year.
