Michael Haddad: Ibrahim nephew tortured in failed Sydney kidnap plot

Abductors threatened to cut off a 21-year-old man’s fingers and ears if their $5 million ransom wasn’t paid - they later dropped the demand to $2 million.

CRIM CITY: Sydney's underbelly exposed

The 21-year-old nephew of the Ibrahim family, Michael Haddad, was the victim of a failed $5 million kidnapping plot where he was bashed and cut before being rescued by NSW Police.

Michael Haddad, whose father Marwan is a self-confessed drug dealer was violently abducted from an underground car park in Ryde last Saturday night and held for two days where he was tortured in an attempt to get his father to pay millions in ransom for his safe return.

His abuctors threatened to cut off his fingers and ears if the money wasn't paid but dropped their original demand of $5 million to $2 million.

Marwan Haddad is the estranged brother-in-law of John, Sam, Michael and Fadi Ibrahim after he married their sister, Armani Stelio. Sources have said that the Ibriham brothers cut off speaking to the Haddads years ago. There’s no suggestion anyone within the Ibrahim family had anything to do with the kidnapping.

After members of the public reported the kidnapping, a strike force was formed by officers of the robbery and serious crime squad.

The victim was located badly injured at East Hills on Tuesday morning and taken to Bankstown Hospital.

Haddad senior was arrested in 2016 and charged with multiple offences relating to the commercial supply of cocaine where police claimed he was making $50,000 a week. He was also charged with possessing an illegal firearm and possessing explosives.

In April this year he was hit with another raft of charges including directing a criminal group and knowingly deal with the proceeds of crime.

On July 28, he changed his plea to guilty on all 18 drug and weapons charges and was granted bail.

He is to be sentenced at Downing Centre Court on November 20.

No one has been charged in relation to the kidnapping.
