Man and woman die in domestic violence stabbing at Bidwill

A man and woman have died in a domestic-related stabbing in Sydney’s west today. Ruth Mataafa, 22, was repeatedly stabbed by her former boyfriend when she went to his house in an attempt to resolve issues after their four-year relationship ended.

The parents of a man accused of repeatedly stabbing his former partner witnessed the violent attack inside a Bidwill home on Saturday afternoon.

Ruth Mataafa was stabbed a number of times inside the Bidwill unit by her boyfriend Jachai Leota Fuimaono after meeting at his home to resolve issues in the wake of their relationship ending.

The 22-year-old died during emergency surgery as paramedics worked to save her young life. She had suffered multiple stab wounds to her back, chest and side. Distraught family members were by her bedside when she passed. Police said Mr Leota Fuimaono’s parents were in the home at the time of the attack and had witnessed some of the events as the horror ordeal unfolded on Tongariro Terrace about 12.45pm.

He died after sustaining a series of stab wounds. Police are not treating his death as suspicious.

The brutal death of the young woman has left two families, the community and police in shock.

“We’re all just coming to terms with it,” one who did not wish to be named said.

Emergency services arrived at a bloody and confronting scene and worked tirelessly to save the pair.

“It’s hard (for the families) to deal with. They are both 22 and you never expect your kids to die,” an emotional Chief Inspector Paul Tickner said.

Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, however, they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

No charges have been laid.
