A gang of three amateur robbers who broke into the wrong house in Sydney’s west before apologising, left a young family both puzzled and fearing for their lives overnight.
At about 10.40pm on Monday, police were called to a home on Mendana Street, Lethbridge Park following reports of a home invasion.
The shaken young family told detectives they were watching TV with their young children when the power suddenly cut out.
The father-of-two walked outside to inspect the fuse box when three intruders – one armed with a gun – forced him back into the house.
Within minutes, the robbers realised they had targeted the wrong family. The rookie criminals apologised to the pair before fleeing the house.
No one was injured in the break-and-enter and nothing was stolen during the ordeal.
Officers from Mount Druitt Police Area Command established a crime scene and detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the home invasion.
Police are looking into whether the previous tenants may have been the intended target of the invasion.
