Inquest to probe Sydney dad Adam Coble's 'homicide'

Police have been investigating claims Adam Coble, 40, was stabbed to death by his mother-in-law after he attacked her in his North Richmond home last year

The Deputy State Coroner says the death of a Sydney father who died after a “gruesome” stabbing involving his wife and mother-in-law was a homicide.

Police have been investigating claims Adam Coble, 40, was stabbed to death by his mother-in-law after he attacked her in his North Richmond home in January last year.

Officers attended the house and found Coble dead with a stab wound to his chest and the woman, aged in her 60s, with critical stab wounds to her neck. She was hospitalised and survived.

Mr Coble’s wife, Robyn, was treated for stab wounds to her hands and it's understood she told police after his death that he had stabbed her mother before she fatally stabbed him.

It is not suggested Mrs Coble or her mother are responsible for Mr Coble’s death. No charges have been laid.

Mr Coble’s mother, Anne Skeed, recently wrote to the NSW Coroner and asked for the case to be reinvestigated, questioning why a history of domestic violence between the couple and a dispute over money had not been pursued.

In response, Ann Lambino, the registrar of the NSW Coroner’s Court, told her Deputy State Coroner Derek Lee had reviewed her correspondence.

“As a result, the Coroner requested that the investigating police make a number of further inquiries to address the matters that you raised,” Ms Lambino wrote in a letter to Ms Skeed.

Ms Lambino said inquiries had been completed.

“The Coroner now proposes to hold an inquest into Adam’s death,” she wrote.

“It is mandatory for an inquest to be held as it appears to the Coroner that Adam’s death was the result of homicide.

“Please note that any conclusion by a coroner that a person died as a result of homicide does not in any way suggest that any criminal offence has been committed.”

Ms Skeed said she was on the phone to Mr Coble and Mrs Coble’s 14-year-old daughter at the time of his death.

"Adam was leaving to come and live with me on January 22 but (died) on January 14,” Ms Skeed told The Daily Telegraph this week.

“Adam was an upholsterer, athlete, horseman and wrote poetry.”
