Denham Court: Assyrian crime gang figure Samer Marcus gunned down

A senior member of an Assyrian crime gang is fighting for life after he was shot at his home on Friday night. It was the second time this year that Samer Marcus has been shot in the face.

The last time he was shot, it was in the face during a confrontation in a suburban street.

And he took himself to hospital after he’d had the bullet in his head for three days.

This time Samer Marcus was blasted six times — in his chest, jaw and back — in the driveway of his Western Sydney home.

And he was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, in a critical condition.

Marcus, a senior member of an Assyrian crime gang, was on Saturday fighting for life after he was shot at his home on Campbelltown Rd, Denham Court, before 8.25pm on Friday.

Marcus is a chief within notorious western Sydney gang DLASTHR — The Last Hour.

The 45-year-old’s partner was home at the time of the attack.

Police are now investigating why the underworld figure was targeted.

The first time he was shot was on June 15 this year.

In August, Campbelltown Local Court was told that Marcus had driven to Middlehope St in Bonnyrigg Heights to confront a 33-year-old man, who allegedly fired several shots, one of which hit the gang leader in the face.

That man was charged with 10 offences, including shooting with intent to murder and discharging a firearm in a public place. He was refused bail and is yet to enter a plea.

Marcus took himself to hospital with a facial wound consistent with a gunshot, and the bullet still in his head, three days after the shooting.

He was later charged with concealing a serious and indictable offence. He is yet to enter a plea. It’s not known if the alleged incident is linked to the latest shooting but police will investigate it as a line of inquiry.

In 2016, the NSW Supreme Court was told DLASTHR “is said to control certain drug territory within the Fairfield area and its surrounds. The criminal group has been involved in a number of violent conflicts in the past”. This had included violent clashes with rival gangs.

According to property records the home where Marcus was shot is owned by a person with his surname.

It was purchased for $1.08 million.

DLASTHR members can be identified by their characteristic tattoos, which include members having the gang’s name inked across their shoulders.

The gang is believed to have been founded in 2002 by Raymon Youmaran, who in 2008 was jailed for 17 years over the 2002 shooting murder of Dimitri Debaz at the Sefton Playhouse Hotel.
