A Sydney man accused of beating and stabbing his elderly parents to death has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
David Reid killed his 71-year-old mother Dianna and 75-year-old father Victor inside their Sutherland family home last year.
On Friday Reid pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to two counts of manslaughter in the NSW Supreme Court.
Defence barrister James Glissan QC said four psychiatrists will need to give evidence at Reid’s February sentencing hearing, noting a “significant medical issue that needs to be explored.”
The then-46-year-old IT worker was taken to hospital for five days after police found the battered bodies of his parents inside the home the trio shared in August 2019.

Emergency services rushed to the Tudar Road home in Bonnet Bay, where Reid lived with his parents for much of his adult life, just after 8am on August 6 after he called threatening self-harm.
Reid, who appeared in court via video link from Long Bay prison, was later put on self-harm watch in custody with Mr Glissan arguing he was vulnerable and in need of protection from other inmates.
Mr and Mrs Reid had served at their local Jannali Anglican Church for more than 50 years, where they were described as “beautiful, gentle people.”
