A Sydney father whose three children were fatally struck by an out-of-control car has reached out to another dad whose two little boys were killed in similar circumstances in country NSW.
Siblings Shane, 6, and Sheldon Shorey, 7, died after they were hit by a vehicle, along with their mother Shayleen Frail, while walking home from a swimming pool last week in Wellington, in the NSW central west.
Danny Abdallah told The Daily Telegraph on Thursday he had contacted their father Joseph Shorey because the incident had reminded him of the loss of his own children, who were run over while on an evening stroll in Oatlands in Sydney’s west almost a year ago.
“We reached out, we sympathise with him,” Mr Abdallah said.
“I just said to him my condolences and told him what we’ve gone through and that it’s not easy.
“What can I say? I feel like I was reliving my nightmare.”
The Shorey boys, who lived in Emerald in Queensland with their father, had been visiting Wellington to see their mother and grandparents when tragedy struck.
Ms Frail survived the incident but suffered a spinal injury, a punctured lung and leg injuries.
“Oh my girl … wish it was me and not my babies,” she wrote online to a friend.
Mr Shorey drove to Wellington and after visiting a roadside vigil said: “My heart’s been ripped out of me … I’ve got nothing, I feel hollow.”
The alleged driver, Jacob Donn, has been charged with 14 offences, has yet to enter a plea and was denied bail in Dubbo Court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Samuel Davidson, 30, will be sentenced on manslaughter charges in March over the Oatlands crash.
Antony, 13, Angelina, 12, and Sienna, 8, Abdallah along with their cousin Veronique Sakr, 11, died after being struck on a footpath in Oatlands while on a walk together.
