An elderly man accused of shooting his ex son-in-law at his home on Sydney’s affluent Upper North Shore has been refused bail.
Bill Murrell, 73, lost his release application in Hornsby Local Court on Friday where he is facing charges of attempting to murder his daughter’s ex husband, Mirko Uskovic, outside his Wahroonga property on November 12.
Magistrate Louise McManus told the court it was too great a risk to release Mr Murrell despite his lawyers offering a long list of strict conditions the 73-year-old was willing to abide by.
Outside court, Mr Murrell’s lawyer Benjamin Goh said his client was now considering further options.
“We will now explore making a further release application in the NSW Supreme Court,” Mr Goh said.
This comes as it can be revealed that Mr Uskovic is set to be sentenced in court over drug offences.
According to court records, the 50-year-old is due in Hornsby Local Court on December 8 to be sentenced after pleading guilty to two charges.
The offences include possessing a prohibited drug and cultivating a small quantity of cannabis.
On Friday, the court heard Mr Uskovic was moving out of the property when he got into an argument with Mr Murrell who allegedly shot him.
The 73-year-old was charged with eight offences, including attempted murder.
It is understood Mr Uskovic and Mr Murrell’s daughter have separated.
It is also understood to that the relationship was not a happy one.
