An AFP police officer has opened fire during a suburban drug operation gone wrong, after his colleague was rammed by an alleged dealer’s car.
The chaos unfolded in Strathfield Plaza carpark on The Boulevarde last night as a team of police closed in on three alleged drug targets.
Police arrested the trio just before 7pm.
It will be alleged the driver of a white Volkswagen Golf ignored a police direction to stop and an officer was rammed by the vehicle.
The AFP last night said an officer pulled out his firearm and shot at the car.
The officer managed to then close in on the driver, who was uninjured, and he was arrested, along with two others.

The officer who was hit was last night receiving treatment in hospital for his injuries. An AFP spokeswoman said the injuries were not life-threatening.
“The AFP can confirm officers arrested three people in Strathfield this evening as part of an ongoing investigation,” she said.
“During this activity, an AFP officer has been struck by a vehicle that refused police direction to stop.
“As a result of this, an AFP officer discharged their firearm at the vehicle.
“The driver of the vehicle was subsequently arrested and did not sustain any injuries. The matter will be subject to an investigation by AFP Professional Standard,” she said.
“As this investigation remains ongoing, it is not appropriate to comment further at this time.”
NSW Police were called to assist with the crime scene examination but it is understood the arrest was part of an AFP-led job.
The second-highest level of the plaza’s car park was cordoned off for several hours last night as officers examined the Volkswagen with its driver side door still open.
There were at least 15 police officers combing over the shopping centre carpark last night.
There were only three or four other cars inside the crime scene, with security guards asking shoppers to steer clear from the police activity.
Investigators were also seen with torches searching around the fire escape door and the wall of the carpark.
A red motorcycle parked about 10 metres from the Volkswagen was also being closely scrutinised.
