A relative of the exiled Australian drug kingpin Hakan “Big Hux” Ayik was among the 224 people arrested as part of this week’s major police raids.

Yusuf Ayik, 20, was arrested at 3.06am on Monday morning at a home on Gordon Street in Brighton-Le-Sands, in Sydney’s south-east.

Police allege that Ayik was involved in the supply of 1192g of methamphetamine on May 14 this year and he has been charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of drugs.

The Daily Telegraph understands Ayik is a cousin of “Big Hux”, who is among the world’s most wanted fugitives and has links to both Comancheros bikies, and the Asian triads.

“Big Hux” was the man responsible for encouraging his mates to use encrypted messenger app AN0M, which this week turned out to be compromised.

The app, which circulated throughout criminal ranks, was actually designed by the FBI and allowed police to see messages users thought were not only private - but untraceable.

The Daily Telegraph is not suggesting Yusuf Ayik was involved in the importation of drugs for his relative Hakan Ayik.

Yusuf Ayik is understood to be a prominent supporter of the young Labor movement and who held the role of assistant secretary at the Macquarie University Labor Society before his arrest.

At the same time as he was being arrested, on Andover Street on the other side of Brighton-Le-Sands police were also raiding the home of Ayhan Bilal Dogan.

Dogan, 23, is charged with supplying a large commercial quantity of a prohibited drug and importing a marketable quantity of a border controlled drug.

The bearded man appeared in court via video link wearing a khaki sports jumper and was not required to enter pleas.

Another man, Hakan Calason, 37, allegedly conspired with Dogan between April 13 and May 26 this year to import a marketable quantity of cocaine.

The Daily Telegraph understands that police will allege the drugs were imported into Australia from the US disguised as muscle supplements.

It is also understood police allege a man who worked at a company at Sydney airport helped import the drugs.

Ayik and Dogan are set to next face Central Local Court on August 4.
