A man has been charged with the murder of his partner at a home in Sydney’s west.
Isaac Costa, 28, was introducing the victim to mates at the pub as his new fiancee days before she died, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.
Police are now honing in on the critical days and hours before the young woman was killed, in an attempt to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Her partner spent Saturday in police custody and was charged with murder late in the day.
He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday morning.
One neighbour said Costa and the woman, believed to be in her 30s, were out celebrating at a local pub the same week she was found dead inside a home owned by Costa’s family in Greystanes.
“He was there four days ago introducing her to everyone as his new fiancee,” the neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, said.
“She had a thick Russian accent. It’s just so sad that this has happened days later.”
Neighbours of the Costas say they woke to a “screaming fit” in the early hours of the morning on Brighton St where the woman was found dead.
One, who did not want to be named, said they woke at 1am when the argument between the pair was raging.
“It was a lot of yelling and screaming … then police arrived,” they said.
“It was one of those ones where I was half asleep but I was so worried for my neighbours. It was like a screaming fit.”
“I have known them for years, I see (Costa’s parents) walking their dog all the time down our street.”
The Brighton St home is owned by Costa’s father Clem Costa, a successful land owner who owned most of the properties on the street before selling them off in recent years.
Clem Costa is not accused of any wrongdoing in relation to the young woman’s death.
The property is a series of small cabins and a caravan located on a lot next to a daycare centre.
One parent who drove past the scene on Saturday said they were worried about sending their children back so close to where the young woman was allegedly killed.
“They have been here for years, we always see him (Clem Costa) and wave at him on the street. Even on his tractor he’s always smiling,” another neighbour said.
“They used to own the whole street and even the daycare too.”
Forensic officers spent the day combing through the scene after detectives first arrived at the home about 1am on Saturday.
Inside they located the dead body of the young woman.
