A man has been charged with domestic violence offences after his mother was stabbed multiple times with a paint scraper in Sydney’s eastern suburbs on Wednesday.

Police arrested the 21-year-old and took him to Prince of Wales Hospital under police guard for assessment.
He was later taken to Maroubra Police Station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm DV. He will appear in Waverly Local Court on Thursday.
His 47-year-old mother was treated at the scene for stab wounds to her head and upper body and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where she remains in a serious but stable condition.
Witnesses told police the woman was involved in an argument with her son before he allegedly stabbed her with the paint scraper.
The bystanders, including a driver on his way home from work, chased the man for several hundred metres to nearby Frenchmans Rd.
Footage of the incident showed the man on the ground next to a bottle shop window, surrounded by other men holding him in place.
One of the men, smoke alarm tester Tom Artemjev, told The Daily Telegraph he was driving home from work when he saw a woman being attacked. He said: “she was covered in blood. She was screaming.
“I pulled my handbrake in the middle of the road and jumped out of the car. A fella in an orange construction shirt and I were chasing him down.’’
Mr Artemjev said the pair was joined by other witnesses who caught up to the man outside a row of shops.
“We just wanted to get him down. The construction shirt guy clipped him and I was pinning (him) by his shoulders,” he said.
“It was a very bloody scene, I hope the lady is all right.’’
Another witness said he helped grab the man.
“We got him yeah, he’s locked up now in the back of a car,” he said.
“A young lady got stabbed, just a crazy scene to be honest.’’
A woman named Hannah said she saw three men chasing down a fourth man before they “rugby tackled him and made a citizens’ arrest”.
Police arrived soon afterwards and arrested him.
