Police are appealing for public assistance as detectives investigate the suspicious death of a woman in Sydney’s east last week.
Police were called to a unit on Astoria Circuit in Maroubra shortly before midday on November 18 and discovered the body of a 66-year-old woman.
Strike Force Nain, comprising detectives from the local police command and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
Following inquiries, investigators now seek to speak with the driver of a small white car believed to have been involved in a collision near the carpark on Bunnerong Rd in Maroubra, shortly before 8pm on Sunday, November 17.
A 50-year-old man who was arrested at the scene remains in custody after being charged with breaching an enforceable apprehended violence order.
Police confirmed the charge is unrelated to the woman’s death.
While the woman has not been formally identified, police believe she was 66 years old.
A post-mortem examination conducted last Tuesday aimed to determine her cause of death, though results have not been disclosed.
Several officers were seen searching the area around Astoria Circuit on the day of the discovery, with a police K9 unit and officers in forensic suits examining bins near the public housing complex.
Items were bagged as part of the investigation.
A long-term resident described the area as “rough,” claiming there were often disturbances.
“It’s normal for police to be called over,” they said.
Police are urging anyone with information or dash cam footage of the Bunnerong Road incident or details relevant to the investigation to contact Eastern Beaches Police Area Command or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report on the woman’s death is being prepared for the Coroner.
