Shocking details have emerged of the moments a young boy screamed for his life when he was set upon by a gang of youths near Manly Wharf with police allegedly uncovering a knife.
Residents on social media claimed dozens of youths set upon a young male in the middle of West Esplanade around 9pm on Monday, with two good Samaritans claiming they were also assaulted as they came to the youth’s aid.
In a social media post on Northern Beaches Living, the “two local heroes” Simon and Renee detailed how they saw about “30 youths” set upon a boy “punching and kicking him in the head”.
Simon said he was hoping to speak to the boy’s parents, as he “will need help”.
“He was literally screaming for his life,” he said.
“Parents, please educate your kids that this can happen in Manly.”
Simon said as he was “bottled and Renee was spat on” but they managed to run the boy across to Fratelli Fresh Manly which sheltered him.
A NSW Police spokeswoman said police were called to Manly Wharf after reports of a large brawl shortly after 9pm on Monday.
“Upon arrival, police were told about 40 people, many of whom were believed to be juveniles, were fighting,” the spokeswoman said.
She added that most people left the scene when officers arrived, with those remaining dispersed and no injuries reported.
“A knife was located on the ground and seized,” the spokeswoman’s statement continued.
A video of the aftermath, obtained by Manly Observer, shows officers leading what appears to be a youth through a crowd of teens towards the back of a police car.
It also depicts one officer holding what looks to be the knife seized by police.
The police spokeswoman said no arrests were made.
