A man has suffered serious stab wounds during a wild brawl, after trying to defend his little sister who had been punched in the face.

Dozens of people had been partying at a home on Karangi Road in Whalan on Friday night when an 18-year-old girl was punched in the face, neighbours said.

“They’d been partying for most of the night,” one Karangi Road resident said.

“She came outside and a man punched her in the face, we saw it all.”

A short time later, the teen’s 20-year-old brother arrived in a dark coloured Sedan, jumping out of his car with a blue baseball bat.

“He didn’t even get a swing in,” a witness said.

“About 20 people just charged out of the house toward him.”

It’s alleged a man wearing a grey hood ran from the house and onto the street, stabbing the 20-year-old several times.

He and his sister managed to flee the fight, ending up at a home on Carlisle Ave in Mount Druitt.

Police and paramedics were called to the Carlisle Ave address, where they found the 20-year-old man with several stab wounds to his chest, arm and head.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition. His sister was taken to Nepean Hospital for treatment.

Police remained at the scene of the brawl in Whalan for most of Saturday morning, with forensic officers seizing the blue baseball bat, several smashed bottles, vapes and other items from the roadway

Blood was clearly visible on the road, believed to be the result of the stabbing.

Neighbours said the incident was “pretty scary”, describing the brawl as “vicious”.

“They were all out here, yelling and screaming, you could hear glass shattering,” a nearby resident said.

“It was vicious, it was a big group on just one guy.”
