Wes Prentice: Two arrested during New Lambton raid over alleged Darby St murder

Nearly four months after Wes Prentice was shot dead in a unit, homicide squad detectives have arrested a man and woman over their alleged roles following the death.

Two people have been arrested over their alleged roles following the death of Wes Prentice in a Cooks Hill unit in July.

Teegan Juanita Bain, 38, and 19-year-old son Aston Ryan Chambers were taken into custody by homicide squad detectives during a raid on a New Lambton home on Friday.

Bain was charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder while Chambers faces one count of concealing a serious indictable offence.

Bain was refused bail but Chambers was released with strict conditions during separate appearances in Newcastle Local Court on Friday afternoon.

The pair were arrested nearly four months after Mr Prentice was shot dead inside a Darby St unit on July 22.

Michael Thomas Rae, 35, was arrested at a Bonny Hills caravan park 10 days later following an intensive investigation led by Strike Force Hibbard detectives.

Police allegedly found a loaded shortened 12-gauge barrel shotgun and cash on Rae when they arrested him at the Beach St location.

“Following further investigations, strike force detectives executed a search warrant at Wickham Road, New Lambton, from 8.30am [on Friday],” police said in a statement.

“Several items relevant to the investigation were seized and will undergo further forensic examination.’’

Chambers was granted bail in Newcastle Local Court with a series of strict conditions, including reporting daily to police and abide by a nightly curfew.

He will reappear in court on December 2.

Bain was refused bail and will reappear in court on January 14.
