Wenty Leagues Club has unveiled its “vibrant” plans worth more than $25m for an upgraded cafe and entertainment hub as part of the next stage of a project that has transformed the huge venue over the past five years.
Changes to the entertainment hub will serve its 70,000-plus members and is to feature an expanded dining and stage area to host performances and music acts.
The Wenty Cafe, to be renamed The Cafe, will close from Wednesday and the upgrade is due to be completed in May 2025, when chief executive Glenn Kovacs said a “new level of vibrancy” would be brought to its entertainment areas.
“Our goal has always been to deliver exceptional experiences for our members,’’ he said.
“This project aligns perfectly with this mission and we are enthusiastic about the positive impact it will have on our community.”
The cafe and bar will temporarily relocate to the former Char steak restaurant, which shut in December, to accommodate cafe renovations.
Char is not guaranteed to return as a steakhouse and seafood restaurant but would be used as a “premier hospitality’’ setting when renovations are completed next year.
“The area was always designed to be premier hospitality or elevated food and beverage offering,’’ Mr Kovacs said.
“The plan from May 2025 is exactly that – return it to a premier food and beverage outlet.
“Our board and executive management team will continue to research and plan for that space’s return to operations.’’
Accessibility upgrades have also been slated as a top priority for mobility-impaired members and guests to enable them to enjoy the renovated areas in the cafe and access the Starlight Room.
The refurbishments could generate up to 30 more employees.
“More offerings, catering and providing space for more customers, means more customer service staff to provide customer service excellence for our members and their guests, that they have come to expect at Wenty Leagues,’’ Mr Kovacs said.
The entertainment hub might be the final chapter in recent renovations but the club is always evolving.
“At Wenty Leagues, we don’t tend to sit still for long,’’ Mr Kovacs said.
“It’s our aim to continue to be a leader in our club industry and offering the very best in food, beverage and entertainment for our members and guests.’’
Wenty Leagues president Ian McCann said the community would be engaged through the project while regular activities were maintained.
“This project is a testament to our commitment to creating a remarkable entertainment destination,’’ he said.
The club’s overhaul – which was announced in 2016 – comprises a new foyer, dining area with eateries including Chef’s Grill and Pizza Mama, four bars, an alfresco dining area, function rooms and a children’s play area.
