Australia's cocaine crisis

Socialite and prominent eastern suburbs real estate agent Warren Ginsberg has abandoned plans to appeal against the severity of a penalty he was given for cocaine possession.

Police had alleged the Ray White Double Bay director was caught with the drug after officers saw him entering a car before quickly exiting in Bondi last year during NSW’s extended Covid lockdown.

The 33-year-old — who was once romantically linked to actor Jodi Gordon — was convicted and fined $500 in Waverley Local Court after pleading guilty to drug possession.

It was the third drug possession charge for Ginsberg but the first time he had been convicted of the offence.

In 2007, when he was just 19, Ginsberg had received a bond for the offence, and a fine without conviction for the second offence in 2010.

Ginsberg, represented by top criminal defence lawyer Bryan Wrench, planned to appeal against the severity of that punishment for his third charge in the higher NSW District Court.

However, his case was mentioned in Downing Centre District Court on Wednesday when Judge Jane Culver confirmed the appeal had been withdrawn via email.

The judge formally dismissed the appeal and the orders of the NSW Local Court were confirmed.

A hearing date slated for Friday was vacated.

In November, a NSW police spokeswoman confirmed the incident took place on Saturday, August 14.

“About 6.45pm plain clothes officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were conducting proactive operations targeting (alleged) drug-related activity in the Bondi Beach area,” she said.

“While patrolling Hall St officers arrested a man after allegedly finding him in possession of cocaine.”

When contacted at the time Ginsberg initially said “it is not me” before a representative for Ray White Double Bay later issued a statement.

“It would be inappropriate to comment on this matter as it has yet to go before the court,” the spokeswoman said.

Ginsberg is a regular fixture on the Eastern Suburbs social scene and is prolific on social media, regularly sharing images hanging out with his celebrity friends.

The Ray White Double Bay website lists Ginsberg as being a Chairman’s Elite Agent, meaning he has been in the top one per cent of the Ray White Group for seven years consecutively.

He is the number two Ray White salesperson in the eastern suburbs.

“Born into a sales family, he is renowned as a strong negotiator, an entrepreneur and a creative thinker, who upholds the strictest marketing and presentation standards for his properties and vendors, to achieve the very best price possible,” the website reads.

“Warren lives, breathes and loves real estate; he is available to his clients 24/7 not because it is a job, but because he is passionate and driven to be the best, and get the very best results for his clients.”

Ginsberg meanwhile recently featured in Confidential when it was revealed he is dating model Indi Thew, who has been known for her racy OnlyFans content.
