NSW Police have arrested a man and found more alleged ‘kill cars’ as they crack down on car theft linked to violent crime in Sydney’s underworld.

NSW Police Task Force Magnus detectives are waging war on those seeking to steal cars for the purpose of violent crime in Sydney’s underworld, last week finding 27 cars and arresting 20 people linked to their thefts.

After a public appeal seeking men captured on CCTV getting out of an allegedly stolen Porsche Caynee and into a Mazda CX5 in Erskineville, police arrested a 32-year-old man at a home in Ryde.

Yesterday a search of the man’s home revealed a Mazda CX5 and multiple sets of car keys belonging to two Audis and a BMW allegedly stolen from Wollstencraft and Ryde on Thursday night.

Earlier this week Task Force Magnus Commander, Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Weinstein said these alleged underworld vehicles are pivotal to committing violent crimes.

“Successful Task Force Magnus proactive taskings have been pivotal to our fight against Organised Criminal Networks,” Det C/Supt Weinstein said.

“That includes the seizure of what are becoming known as ‘kill cars’ – cars we will allege were stolen for the purpose of use in carrying out violent crimes across Sydney.

“We are not just solving the violent shootings which have preceded us, but we are actively working to stop any more from occurring.”

Last week police seized a number of cars which they allege were lying in wait for use in shootings and killings, complete with jerry cans of fuel ready to use.

In the raid NSW Police arrested 31-year-old Evan Maroney who was charged with the theft of seven cars, with police alleging he was acting as a middle man to facilitate the use of cars in underworld crimes.

Taskforce Magnus was established to investigate a string of murders and shootings in the last six months, including the death of senior Comanchero Alen Moradian.
